We are delighted to announce the results of the 7th National English Writing Competition (NEW-C), where over 40 primary schools in Singapore selected more than a hundred of their top students to participate.
We were pleasantly surprised by the wide range of themes explored by the young writers this year. Some stories drew on familiar experiences from everyday life, such as sibling rivalry, friendships, and bullying, while others ventured into more imaginative territory, like the origins of a Watermelon Day, the succession of a coffeeshop, and the experiences of a beggar.
Some stories were deeply moving, while others had us laughing non-stop. Whether heartfelt or humorous, all the entries reflected the writers’ best effort, and in many cases, the courage to think outside the box.
