1st Singapore Short Stories Showcase (4S)

Twisted Tales

From Snow Whites, Cinderellas and Ariels, to Hansel and Gretel, Jack and his beanstalk, and Gulliver and his travels, the first edition of the Singapore Short Stories Showcase (4S) saw an amazing 513 entries, each rewriting the classics from a fresh angle. Plot twists, stories told from the antagonist’s perspective, updates to a modern context, Singaporean versions of the old tales, new morals drawn from the stories – these are just some of the many ways all of you have wow-ed us. Truly, you have shown us that stories are not set in stone.

While the submissions did not carry the authors’ age, and we note that this is an open competition without age groups, we noticed a significant number of entries were sent from primary and secondary school email addresses. To this, we would like to thank all the schools for their support, and applaud the courage of the students to play with the big boys, so to speak.
